New Dresser

For a while I've been trying to decide if I should build a new dresser or just deal with whatever I can find...and I hadn't found anything big enough or that would work...but we also didn't have the money to build one...but then my neighbor Leaha called and asked if I was still looking for a dresser cuz she was gonna get rid of hers...SWEET...so for $15 I took it off her hands...

But something needed to be done...after all I dont spend countless hours on Pinterest for nothing! ;)

So I sanded it...which it says you dont have to do but...I wanted to...then I primed it with COVER STAIN...

Then gave it a first coat...dont ask the color cuz I was trying to be a FRUGAL as I could...and used a few older paints I had and mixed them together...I was aiming for Teal!

   It's a little greener than I would NORMALLY have wanted...but it's bright and fun...and we aren't done yet! :D

Then we added some stain...to make it look...OLD...kinda!

And now it's home!!!! It is much bigger than I thought...which is perfect! I am VERY thankful for this dresser!

Kool-Aid dyeing

I kind of followed this blog...and did some more Kool-Aid dyeing....

Blue "dye"

Purple "dye"

After I boiled it...and then twisted and banded it....

I poured the koolaid on it...made a bigger mess than I thought...didn't have time for pictures....got it wrapped up and ready for the microwave...

All Done....I think my problem is I dont wait long enough....I am gonna try a few  more...check back soon!

Ice Dyeing

I started by reading this blog...and then wanted to try it myself...and wanted to see what I could do different and stuff...here's what I did...

Tropical Punch makes RED and Strawberry Pink...

I twisted and couldn't find a rubber band but elastic works too!

I put the fabric in a bowl...added some ice...and sprinkled Kool-Aid on top...

Who wants to wait FOREVER?! Not me...so I threw it in the Microwave for a few minutes...

I had to rearrange the ice a couple times....

Didn't seem like it was dyeing enough...so I added some water...and microwaved it again...

Then I wrapped it in cling wrap and microwaved it like the tutorial said...

Cooled down a bit...not totally....

Rinsed it out...and threw it in the dryer...

All done!!! It is a lot paler in person then it looks on here...but it will work nice for a skirt for Ella or something!!! (You can click on any picture to see more detail!)

Snow Dyeing!!!!

My boss at work told me about snow dyeing fabric...just in time too...

We got 6 inches of snow last night!!!!

So we thought we would try it...here's what we did...

Dry fabric crumpled up...

Added snow just covering the fabric...

Ella pouring dye on...

Ian's turn...

Ella again...

Sitting by the heater...letting snow melt...we went outside for about an hour and a half to play....and then cuz I couldn't wait any longer...when we came in I dumped the snow and started rinsing...first really HOT water then cold water...then the dryer!

Not super bright...probably should have left it longer...

Before and after...the before is bad lighting...they are white and cream...I like the "sherbert"color that came out!!!

Ella's LaLaLucy

Ella wanted a "LaLa Lucy" (it's really called LaLaLoopsy but she calls it Lucy) anyway...so I made her one...I used this pattern...

And it was suppose to look like this...

    And I made this....

It may not look exactly like her...but Ella LOVES her...told me it was the BEST LaLaLucy she has ever seen! :D She's a good girl! LOL

Bed Table / TV tray

Paul and I were talking randomly today how it would be nice to have a tv tray type thing to go by the bed for when we are watching something in there and want a place for our drinks or the kid's snacks..so..the kids and I went to Menards and after some much needed running around for the kids (they have a playground set up inside) we grabbed some random things and headed home...and after an hour of sawing and sanding and screwing and nailing...I made this...

Ian HAD to be in the picture...and yes I will put some kind of finish on it...and I'm going to glue FELT to the bottom so it doesn't scrape up my pretty floors!

It is level...the angle is weird cuz of the picture or something

Then they both had to be in the pictures! LOL

And now Ian doesn't care anymore! LOL

So after I slap on some paint or stain and poly...it will be a GREAT little table for by the bed!!!! Oh and I bought little pieces of wood from the BARGAIN bin at Menards...so the wood only cost me $1.74 and I already owned the brackets...so I made this for less than $2!!!
